Got Your Teen's PSAT Score?

The PSAT shows a rough starting point. A full-length practice SAT under real conditions shows where your teen actually stands, and our review shows why.

Find Out Before You Spend

Prep courses and private tutors can cost far more than a single Saturday, and it's hard to know what your teen actually needs. The bootcamp gives you a real score, a clear explanation of the gaps, and the information to decide what comes next.

"Can't we just take a practice test at home?"

You can, and it's a good start. But at home there's no proctor, no clock pressure, and no one to explain the misses. At the bootcamp, your teen tests under real conditions, then works through the hard questions with coaches who scored 1500+.

The Day

Who Leads It

The bootcamp is led by Phyl Demetriou, Forte Director, founder of the Richmond Debate Institute and RITS. He's joined by SAT coaches who scored 1500 or higher, from schools like Harvard and VCU. They took the digital SAT recently, and teens listen to someone a few years older who just did it.

  • Yes. Students check in, test on the official app under the real clock, and hear proctor instructions, so test day holds fewer surprises and pacing feels familiar.

  • Many students keep practicing on their own with the Guidebook and free official tools. If your teen wants more support, call us about additional bootcamps, private tutoring, or college counseling.

The Day

  • Each Forte SAT Bootcamp is capped at 20 students, with one or two instructors in the room. Small groups mean coaches can answer questions and keep the review focused.

  • Yes. Drop-off and check-in are at 8:00 a.m., and pickup is at 2:00 p.m. Students are supervised all day and stay in the building, including during lunch.

  • Yes. Any student who can get to the Weinstein JCC on a bootcamp Saturday is welcome.

  • The bootcamp runs on standard SAT timing, and we aren't able to offer extended time or additional breaks. If your teen has accommodations, call us to talk through whether the bootcamp is a good fit.

The Practice Test and Review

  • It's an official College Board practice test, taken in Bluebook, the same app used on the real SAT. Students take a practice test they haven't taken before. The score is a practice score and isn't reported to colleges.

  • Yes. Students get the standard break between the Reading and Writing and Math sections, just like on test day.

  • Coaches focus on the sections and question types the group found hardest. One hour is dedicated to Math and one hour to Reading and Writing.

Safety and Privacy

  • Yes. All Forte coaches and staff complete background checks.

  • No. Forte College Prep doesn't share student scores or personal information with schools, colleges, or anyone else.

  • No. We don't photograph students at bootcamps.

SAT Basics

  • Most students start in the fall or winter of junior year, about three to six months before their first official test. Sophomores benefit from an early practice test to set a baseline.

  • It's taken on a laptop in the College Board's Bluebook app and runs about two hours and fourteen minutes. It's also adaptive: the second half of each section adjusts to how the student did on the first. That's why practicing on the real app matters.

  • It depends on the college. Many are test-optional, and a growing number of selective colleges require scores again. A strong score can still help an application or merit scholarships, so check each school's current policy.

  • UVA, William & Mary, and Virginia Tech are currently test optional, but each publishes the scores of students who submit. In the 2025–26 Common Data Sets, the middle 50% of enrolled students who submitted the SAT scored about 1410–1510 at UVA, 1390–1520 at William & Mary, and 1280–1450 at Virginia Tech. Policies change, so confirm on each admissions site.

  • Often yes, if there's time and room to improve. Scores usually arrive about two weeks after test day, so count backward from each deadline, and check whether each college accepts later fall scores.

  • The PSAT is scored from 320 to 1520 and shows your teen's percentile and skill areas. It's a rough preview of SAT performance, not a verdict. For juniors, it also counts toward National Merit.

  • It depends on your teen's colleges. Nationally, the Class of 2025 averaged about 1029. For selective Virginia schools, the target is the middle 50% range of admitted students, often 1280 and up.

  • Most colleges accept either. The SAT is digital and adaptive; the ACT is now shorter with an optional Science section. A practice test of each is the clearest way to decide.

  • Let the data do the talking. A real score and a clear explanation of the gaps, coming from a coach a few years older, usually lands better than a parent reminder.

  • Prices vary widely, and many companies don't publish them. The Forte SAT Bootcamp is $299 for six hours of live instruction, a Score Report, and the Guidebook. For tutoring or counseling, call us for a recommendation.
